Private Pilot License

Most people’s flying goals include flying for business or pleasure and private pilot training allows students to achieve those goals. A Private Pilot Certificate (commonly referred to as private pilot license) can be equated to a basic drivers license. It allows people to fly themselves, family, and friends under visual flight rules (VFR). The FAA requires a minimum of 40 hours of flight training; these hours must include cross-country, night, and solo flight time before the student is eligible for a Private Pilot Certificate.
Requirements for License
- Be at least 17 years of age (can begin lessons prior to 17)
- Be able to read, speak, and understand the English language
- Obtain at least a current third-class medical certificate
- Pass a knowledge test as well as the practical test
- Have logged at least 40 hours

commercial Pilot License

For pilots to be eligible to fly for hire they must first hold a Commercial Pilot Certificate. As a prerequisite, students are required to first hold a Private Pilot Certificate. Commercial pilot training will include strenuous training, honing the student into a highly skilled and proficient pilot. Commercial pilot training is a necessary step in perusing a career in aviation and is great for military rotor-wing pilots looking to make the transition to fixed-wing flying. Currently, airlines are hiring at record rates, and earning a commercial certificate is required to become an Air Transport Pilot. The FAA requires a minimum of 250 hours of flight time to be eligible for a Commercial Pilot Certificate.
Requirements
- Hold a private pilot certificate (see above for requirements)
- Have logged at least 250 hours
- Pass a knowledge test as well as the practical test
